Writing 101: Day Ten – Update Your Readers Over A Cup Of Coffee #GlobalGoals
Today’s Writing 101, day ten:
No matter what type of blog you have, it’s sometimes necessary to post updates: from project news to personal messages about what’s going on in your life. One creative approach to an update post is a “virtual coffee date,” as seen on Kate Goes Global, which is like catching up with an old friend over a cup of coffee.
In her post, Kate begins each paragraph with If we were having coffee right now… and then adds a detail. You can share any details you’d like and include as many as you want, as long as you begin each with If we were having coffee right now… (or a variation of this phrase, as seen on Girl with the Red Hair).
It’s a simple idea, but offers a bit more structure to your post — and is a lot more fun. So today, write an update post in the form of a virtual coffee date.
If this post isn’t fitting for your blog, or just not your style, here’s your alternative: use a coffee shop as your inspiration.
- Set your poem or short story in a cafe.
- Go to your neighborhood spot with your laptop or notebook and free-write for 20 minutes, prompted by what you observe.
- Love or hate coffee? Tell us why.
If we were having coffee right now…I would say “Nice meeting you, I finally added Blogging as one of my hobbies”.
Did you know that..
On September 25th 2015, 193 world leaders will commit to 17 Global Goals to achieve 3 extraordinary things in the next 15 years. End extreme poverty. Fight inequality & injustice. Fix climate change. The Global Goals for sustainable development could get these things done. In all countries. For all people.

Reading through that list made me realize just how hard and how much time goes in achieving them. So far we have gender equalities going, but there are still a lot of things that we all need to address. Great post by the way 🙂

I agree with you completely! Can’t you see a better world after enough people take their own action to achieve these. I wonder if governments can tackle these quickly. But real people who chose to change habits, change consumption, lend a hand and build better networks and systems can. One voice, reaches many. Let’s share and keep it going.

Wow. am glad u did share this with the world. It’s a global call. My choice will be Number #1. No poverty. I strongly believe that if individuals are empowered and sustained, every other thing will follow. If you are poor, you cant afford good medication and an overall well being. Poverty is a disease. When you are rich you can afford good education and a good home. Nice Post. Cheers my friend.:)

Great post! Nice of you to bring our attention to this global event. They’re all wonderful goals and I’m behind *all* of them – but I had to choose only one, it’d be #4. I always believe in quality education as one of the means to raise quality of life.

You’re absolutely right! Change begins first with oneself. It’s easy to look at the world and even our society and say, “This needs to change and that needs to change and this is a huge problem.” but without health and well-being we cannot take action! It’s definitely a hard lesson I have learned and beginning to rectify. As Mahatma Gandhi said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” Wise words. Thank you for sharing your opinion on our virtual coffee date, I wholeheartedly agree! 🙂
