MET Gala 2019

Hello neighbors,

Do you know about MET Gala? Have you heard about it?

Colloquially and affectionately referred to as “fashion’s biggest night out,” the Met Gala 2019 is a pinnacle of iconic style.

Every year I always watched or read about it in the news but never bother what is it all about. Though I want to go on details about it, to be honest, I am only interested in what the guest or famous celebrities wear.

THEME?

Camp: Notes on Fashion

Camp, as Sontag describes it in the opening paragraphs of her essay, is “its love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration.”

Camp, as defined by Merriam-Webster, is “something so outrageously artificial, affected, inappropriate, or out-of-date as to be considered amusing; a style or mode of personal or creative expression that is absurdly exaggerated and often fuses elements of high and popular culture.”

FAVORITES:

Emily Ratajkowski, Design by Dundas

The model-actress arrived in the ultimate naked dress. Her custom Dundas design, which sparkled from head-to-toe, featured a full bodice cut-out, open back, and a halter-neck tie. (Source)

Emily Ratajkowski wore the most daring look and channeled Cher’s original naked dress.

Alicia Keys, by Carolina Herrera

Alicia Keys, with husband Swizz Beats, was wearing Seafoam Green by Carolina Herrera dress that featured a hood, plunging neckline and long train.

She stayed true to her natural, minimal makeup memo this evening at the 2019 Met Gala, her confidence at an event where everyone else is wearing completely done-up, over-the-top makeup is truly inspiring. (Source)

Hailey Baldwin-Bieber, by Alexander Wang

Hailey Bieber showed off her interpretation of that theme in a custom Alexander Wang pink column gown covered in sequins. The model’s hair also had a very Barbie-esque vibe to it: Worn in a super tight ponytail high on her head, her hair was tied with a black velvet bow, which added extra elegance to the look. (Source)

There were plenty of good designers to choose from but I have to say it took me six hours just to choose my personal preference among all of them.

Which is better among my choices? Are they campy enough?
